Rabbit Air is a fairly recent company, founded in 2001, that has several different brands of higher-end air purifiers. They are more expensive than a lot of other companies - you're going to be paying at least $300 if you want one. However, they are well respected and you get a lot of bang for your buck, with more efficient filters and a lot more features. If you've got a smoker in your family or a health issue like allergies or asthma that is causing series aggravation, it may be well worth the extra money.
Here are their current models:
Minus A2 Ultraquiet (roughly $400-500)
The first thing you'll notice about these is that unlike any other brand of air purifier, you get to customize the filters it has inside to fit the reason you're buying it. This is a BIG plus - most people get them for a very specific problem with air quality, and there are different kinds of filters that are more or less effective at dealing with any particular one. There are three basic configurations: A pet allergy filter, a germ defense filter, and a toxin absorber filter. The first two are obvious, the "toxin absorber" is a filter specially designed for smoke.
Including the custom ones, there are seven different filters - a static prefilter, a "medium filter," a HEPA filter, your custom filter, a charcoal filter, a brushless DC motor, and an ionizer. This is more than I've seen in any other brand, and will cover every basic reason you could want an air cleaner. One cool feature on the Rabbit Air purifiers is that the HEPA filter is coated with an agent designed to kill the flu virus.
You'll also notice that the image above doesn't look like it's an air purifier. It's a flat slab designed so you can hang it on the wall, and it's stylish enough that it won't look bad if you do it.
It's also got an air quality indicator, which tells you generally whether you've got high or low air quality based on what it's picking up.
Finally, it's very quiet. It has five different speeds - on the lower ones, silent, low, and medium, it is about as loud as a ceiling fan on low. On high or turbo, it's audible, but not as bad as many other brands.
Rabbit Air BioGS (roughly $300-400)
The BioGS is their other major brand. It looks a little different, because this one isn't designed for a wall mount, but it's still a very nice look, and you can get it in different colors. This one has five filters - a prefilter, a HEPA filter, a charcoal filter, a brushless DC motor, and an ionizer. Really, the main difference between this one and the one above is that it's got a few less features. You can get this for a little cheaper (or get more square feet covered for the same price). It's still pretty quiet, and is still going to be a very good buy - looking around on Amazon it got mostly five star reviews.
